REHABILITATION SERVICES
Our work initially commenced by offering treatments on service trips often held outside with patients receiving therapy on picnic tables and has since evolved into three permanent clinic sites staffed by Guatemalan therapists. Every year, we bring college students seeking a degree in rehabilitation therapy to Guatemala to gain clinical experience and a meaningful life-changing experience helping people in need.
Kevin O’Halloran Rehabilitation CenterThe Kevin O'Halloran Rehabilitation Center was established in 2005 by long-time Hearts In Motion traveler and orthopedic surgeon Kevin O'Halloran to provide ongoing follow-up therapy for post-surgery patients and community members in need. The Center also offers adaptive equipment such as crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs.
HIM Physical Therapy Center – GualanIn 2012, we opened our second therapy clinic on our Gualan Campus. We identified that people in the surrounding area needed services to aid with recovery from surgery, managing disabilities, and other mobility issues, as there were no other alternatives in the region. Some patients may even travel long distances to our clinic to receive care, adaptive equipment, and guidance.
HIM Casa de Rehabilitacion – El ParaisoServing the patients of the department of Zacapa and surrounding departments, this clinic specifically offers extended hours to accommodate the schedules of working families so the family member in need of care can receive treatment without anyone having to miss to work.
If you have questions about our Rehabilitation Services, want to donate equipment, or join us on a service trip, contact our Director of Therapy Programs, Nancy Winiecki, at nancyw@heartsinmotion.org.
