Hearts in Motion

LOCATION

Pueblo Modelo

Founded after Hurricane Mitch in 1999, Pueblo Modelo was created to house displaced families—but lacked basic infrastructure. For over 22 years, Hearts In Motion in partnership with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Naperville, IL has supported this resilient community through education, healthcare, housing, and sustainable development.

Good Shepherd Daycare & Preschool

In rural Guatemala, poverty severely limits children’s access to education, nutrition, and healthcare. Our Daycare and Preschool Program in Pueblo Modelo provides a safe, nurturing environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

  • Children receive early childhood education, preparing them for success in elementary school.
  • The center includes a library, computer lab, and life skills training.
  • Every child receives two nutritious meals and snacks daily.
  • Access to medical, dental, and vision care is provided during our volunteer medical missions.
  • The center operates year-round, allowing parents to work while ensuring older siblings can attend school.

This program was made possible through a partnership with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Safe Housing Program

Many families live under tarps or tin roofs. Our home construction initiative has built 50 cement block homes with cooking stoves and outdoor bathroom enclosures—offering safety, dignity, and stability.

Young Gardeners International

(YGI)

Inspired by U.S. youth Aiden Mitchell, YGI teaches children and families to grow their own food. Graduates mentor others, and an annual harvest contest rewards families with essentials like chickens, rice, and oil.

Music In Motion

Our before- and after-school music program helps children build confidence, creativity, and connection through rhythm and melody—all in a safe, supportive environment.
