Imagine placing a pair of reading glasses on the face of an elderly woman, and watching her read her Bible for the first time in decades. Or watching the expression of a nearsighted man whose entire life was a blur before he received his first pair of glasses. It is for stories such as these our vision program was created by board member Marcia McGinnis.
As part of our general medical clinics, we travel to needy villages each day to seek out those struggling to see in their daily life due to imperfect vision. Our vision team sets up the proper equipment to do vision screenings and fits each visitor with prescription eyeglasses, readers and/or sunglasses. We welcome any volunteers in Optometry and persons willing to learn how to assist us on the team. Donations of reading glasses, prescription glasses or sunglasses that are still in wearable condition are appreciated.
