Gualan Campus
Located in Gualán, Zacapa, Guatemala, the Hearts In Motion Gualan Campus is a 17-acre center dedicated to humanitarian aid, education, and community empowerment. This campus is a favorite destination for mission trip volunteers looking to make a meaningful impact while connecting with local staff and families.
Whether you’re interested in volunteering in Guatemala, supporting malnourished children, or helping seniors and students thrive, the Gualan Campus offers a variety of ways to get involved.
Nutrition Center for Malnourished Children
Our Nutrition Center in Gualán provides life-saving care to approximately 30 children annually who are severely malnourished and brought in from rural villages. While children receive medical and nutritional support, their mothers live on-site and participate in training programs focused on nutrition, hygiene, and caregiving.
We offer comprehensive services to support recovery and long-term wellness:
- Medical, dental, and vision care
- Safe, clean housing during recovery
- Expert health assessments and care planning
- Nutritious meals and snacks
- Educational access and enrichment
- Interactive play and field trips
These wrap-around services help children heal physically and emotionally, preparing them to return home stronger and healthier.
Senior Support Center in Gualán
The Senior Center provides a safe and welcoming space for older adults in the community to gather, share meals, and enjoy meaningful activities such as:
- Arts and crafts
- Singing and games
- Prayer and fellowship
Seniors also receive medical and dental care from visiting Hearts In Motion teams, ensuring their health and dignity are supported.
Maria-Felicitás Diego Morales Trade School
Our Trade School in Gualán, Guatemala spans nearly 20,000 square feet, offering hands-on training in valuable trades. Students gain practical skills in a safe and well-equipped environment featuring:
- Five workbenches
- Safety gear including helmets, gloves, and headgear
- Tools such as grinders, welding machines, and hacksaws
Mission trip volunteers can purchase custom welded souvenirs, with proceeds directly supporting the school and its educational mission.
Music In Motion
Music In Motion offers a safe, enriching space for children to learn and grow—before and after school. Through rhythm, melody, and creativity, the program helps students build confidence, express themselves, and connect with others.
Rehabilitation Services in Guatemala
Since 2002, Hearts In Motion has provided free or donation-based rehabilitation care to individuals of all ages—never turning anyone away. What began with therapy sessions on picnic tables has grown into three permanent clinics in Zacapa, Gualán, and Teculután, staffed by Guatemalan professionals and supported by international volunteers.
Our mission is simple: help people living in poverty recover from injuries, manage disabilities, and regain mobility—with dignity and hope.
Services include:
- Therapy and follow-up care for post-surgical patients
- Support for disability management and mobility improvement
- Distribution of adaptive equipment: braces, crutches, walkers, wheelchairs
Together, these services restore independence and improve quality of life for those with limited access to healthcare.
